The Book Revue Bookstore

Huntington, NY

The Book Revue bookstore at 13,000 sq. ft. is one of the largest independently owned bookstores in the United States. We expanded the original bookstore by making a 2-story addition into a parking lot that includes a double-height space with a café, a mezzanine, and light tunnels splaying light down into the space. The front of the addition is staggered in plan to resemble stacked books and to follow the curve of New York Avenue. We integrated the work of artists into the architectural project. Above the front picture windows there are glass panels with books like falling leaves etched into the glass. The signage at the front of the store integrating books was done by the artist, Philip Jordan, and the bent metal mobiles of animals hanging in the double-height space are by Angus Wallace.
